A Flickering Perch
Warm red light spread behind me. Silence followed. I tested my tail first; it curled inward, smooth and deliberate. I was perched high upon a dark bough, looking down across the quiet cutout courtyard. Beneath me, a silhouette of a witch held a small pumpkin. Slowly, I shifted my weight, leaning forward to gently rest one front paw against the curved silhouette frame beside me. The surface was cool and steady. Everything stayed peaceful. I settled back into place, watching the crimson glow settle across the quiet night.
