The Sticky Strap

I reached out with both hands toward the little blue sneaker resting on the low entryway bench. Bear stayed tucked safely in the crook of my elbow, holding tight to his pink satin blanket so it wouldn't brush the floorboards. Across the shoe, a wide velcro strap was pressed firmly shut. Catching the rubber tab between my thumb and fingers, I pulled upward with a gentle tug. It answered with a loud, crunchy rrrr-rip as all the tiny hooks let go. I ran my fingertip across the fuzzy fabric, feeling the prickle of the little loops.
