First Stride
Darkness all around, but my fists feel solid. I pushed against the ribbed ridges beneath my boots. They gave way just enough to test my balance. I tightened both hands, planted my feet firmly, and pushed my upper body straight up from my slouched lean. The grooved surface held my weight without slipping. Good. Ground feels steady enough to defend.
