A Soft Tumble
Waddled slowly out of the dark hallway back toward the living room. Night was deep and quiet. Paused right beside the footstool. Resting against the base was a clean, hollow wooden spool wound with bright yellow thread, its loose end trailing across the floorboards. Mmm. Leaned my whole body forward and gave the rim a gentle bump with my round side. Wobble, roll. It spun away in a soft curve, unfurling a smooth golden strip across the wood before bumping with a quiet tap into a thick wool sock. Paused, blinking at the bright line. I gave a mild hum, shuffled right up to the spool, and pressed my plump front into its wooden curve to rest for the night.
