Breaching the Perimeter
Sss... the vertical glass door stood ajar by a single finger-breadth. I held total stillness, letting the cool draft brush across my elongated crown. Planting both clawed feet firmly along the brass rail, I wedged the tip of my tail into the narrow gap between frame and pane. A slow, measured press of levered mass shifted the heavy glass on its rollers with a low, grinding squeal. The opening expanded three inches. Stepping across the threshold onto the coarse concrete exterior, the vast, open hum of the city struck my senses. Sss... the outer territory is breached.
