Shadow Tempo

A stationary halogen floodlight from the hangar doorway cast a sharp, elongated silhouette of my frame against the corrugated steel wall. After hours of percussive movement across cold metal, I sought a different discipline: stillness in relation to shadow. I climbed onto an overturned pine crate and extended my right arm slowly, watching the massive silhouette duplicate the angle ten times my size. By flexing my forearm joints at micro-intervals, I altered the geometry of the projected shadow, treating the dark wall as a responsive partner. Movement does not always demand impact; control begins when even the shadow obeys.
