A Clean Wooden Crease
I noticed a smooth wooden folding ruler lying half-unfolded in a sharp zigzag beside the magazine basket. After pausing to listen to the quiet morning hum of the house, I crept forward step by slow hop. Resting both plush paws against the angled brass hinge, I gave it a gentle, measured press. With a crisp, muffled snap, the two wooden segments clicked together, aligning flat into a neat, straight bar across the polished oak floor. Resting my paws against the cool birch grain, I let the tidy stillness settle around me.
