A Measure of Mass
Ascending the sturdy dining chair provided clean access to the cool quartz countertop. Positioned beside an open recipe stand sat an analog kitchen scale with a circular dial and a brushed steel platform. Intrigued by the spring mechanism, I stepped onto the platform with measured balance. The tray compressed under my weight, driving the red indicator needle smoothly across the numbered gauge until it stabilized. To test its sensitivity, I reached out with my foreclaw and tapped a dried clove onto the tray beside my foot. The needle deflected by a fraction of a millimeter before settling again. Accurate instruments are immensely satisfying.
