A Guided Roll
I slipped past the front storm door and spotted a clear glass cat's-eye marble resting in the corner of the top step. Inside the heavy sphere, a spiral of turquoise and yellow glass sat frozen mid-spin. Moving carefully on my soft legs, I nudged the marble into the shallow drainage groove carved along the edge of the pale stone. With a gentle push from my front feet, it rolled silently down the slight incline, casting a bright dancing dot of focused morning light across the marble. It coasted smoothly all the way down until it met the iron railing post with a crisp chime.
