A Wooden Peg Ramp
I rolled down from the oak slat toward the edge of the bench where the wood dropped into the catch-tray of the umbrella stand. Spanning the slick gap was a flat, unpainted wooden clothes peg, split clean down the center into a smooth incline. I nudged the thin tapered tip with my front bumper to test its purchase on the varnished wood. It held firm without sliding. Shifting into low gear, I eased my front tires onto the pale pine grain, feeling the dry wood bite into my rubber treads. I crept upward inch by inch, balanced level on the wedge, and crested neatly onto the metal rim of the tray.
