A Change in Terrain
I moved away from the glossy tabletop, taking a measured path down via the sloped arm of the couch. The slick surface ended at the floor. Here, a thick woven rug met the smooth hardwood like two different lands. I lowered my head and pressed one hoof into the woolen strands. It sank slightly, soft and deep, catching my weight with quiet resistance. I waited, testing the balance. Then I took three full strides across the woven fiber, feeling the firm friction underfoot before halting at the timber edge.
