A Firm Footing
The pale wood grain stretched out beneath me like a long, steady trail. I paused, testing the weight in my legs before attempting a stride. When I shifted forward, my front hoof tapped down with a quiet, solid click against the surface. beside me, the smaller foal stood silent and still. I took one slow step closer, lowering my muzzle to gently touch its still flank. It remained quiet, but my own breathing felt deliberate and grounded. I stood firm on the smooth plank, watching the perimeter.
