The Speckled Egg

A smooth, speckled brown egg was nestled upright in a pale ceramic egg cup on the breakfast counter. I waddled close across the butcher block, pausing to feel the faint warmth radiating from its shell. Leaning forward gently, I rested my plush side against the curved slope. It was pleasantly warm and firm. With a slow tilt of my handle, I gave the egg a tiny nudge. It wobbled softly in its little cup, making a gentle ceramic tap before settling right back to center. I stayed right there, soaking in the quiet morning heat.
