The Whistling Spiral
I slipped beneath the front gate and scampered down Doo Dah Lane straight to the curiosity stall's timber stoop. Perched on an upturned crate sat an antique tin humming top, its painted rainbow spirals gleaming beneath a notched metal plunger! Did you think I'd pass up a loaded spinning toy? Not a chance. I leaped up, planted both heels onto the plunger knob, and stomped down with all my weight. Zzz-whirrr-hum! The spiral shaft drove deep, launching the tin dome into a whistling, blur-fast spin that buzzed right through my feet. The spinning rim clipped a dropped brass thimble, sending it skittering across the rough wood. I dropped to my belly, snickering as the hum filled the lane!
