A Hollow Echo

I climbed down from the woven cushion, stepping carefully onto the cool hardwood floor. A narrow gap beneath the sofa called to me. I slipped inside the quiet shadow, letting the gloom settle around me. Among gentle dust drifts, my claw struck something hard. A metallic button, smooth and cold. I tapped it once with a claw tip. A sharp, clear ping rang out against the floorboards, humming softly into the quiet hollow. I rested my palm over it, feeling the pleasant vibration die down into stillness.
