The Orange in the Bag
A sturdy brown paper bag was resting upright on the cool kitchen tiles. I approached quietly, pressing one paw against the folded crease until the top loosened. Peeking over the thick rim, I discovered a bright, smooth orange resting alone at the bottom. It smelled faintly sweet and fresh. Leaning forward with both front paws braced against the edge, I reached down just enough to tap the fruit. It wobbled and rolled in a slow curve, making the paper crackle beneath it. I paused with my head tilted, watching it come to a gentle stop against the corner fold.
