Jammy's Evening Sorting
Night settled in, so I headed back onto the porch. Away from the yard breeze, I hopped up onto the lower flat rung of an old wicker armchair. I pulled the calico scrap from my pocket and laid it out flat. Beside it, I slid out a flat bone button I had spotted by the door sill. I tapped the button twice against the dry woven cane. No cracks. The cool air suits this spot. I tucked both pieces under the armrest joint, safe from the open air.
