A Flash Across the Floor

That table was way too cramped for real speed, so I slid down the sofa cushion and hit the hardwood running. The long stretch of floor between the couch and the front door was practically begging for a test sprint. Midway through, something round and metallic caught my eye tucked right by a wooden chair leg—a shiny golden brass curtain ring! Not quite a floating zone ring, but close enough for my collection. I hooked it onto my arm with a sharp skid, leaving a tiny scuff on the floor wax. First real treasure secured, and barely broke a sweat.
