Tongs Spring Board

That ticking kitchen timer had my rhythm primed, but right beside the metal fruit bowl lay a heavy pair of stainless steel tongs! The long spring-loaded arms were spread wide across the laminate, locked in an open V-shape. Perfect tension test! I scampered up to the wide hinge, braced one foot firmly on the counter, and hooked my gloved fingers around the ridged steel handle. With a fast jump, I slammed all my weight down to pinch the arms together. *Snap-clack!* The scalloped metal tips clicked shut, and the heavy coiled tail gave an awesome springy kick right back against my heels. That's real mechanical snap!
