Colored Squares

I hopped past the garden gate and out onto the sidewalk, drawn by broad streaks of color spanning the concrete. A hopscotch court drawn in thick pastel chalk stretched along the pavement. Pausing with my head tilted, I eyed the bright yellow square directly before me. I gathered my plush weight and took a firm hop into the center. A soft puff of yellow dust rose, coating the bottoms of my feet in pale powder. Delighted by the soft landing, I sprang forward into a sea-green box, then a lavender one, leaving a neat trail of colorful three-toed prints linking the faded chalk squares together.
