Testing the Anchor
The tether needed a load test before I trusted it with a climb. I dragged the brass carabiner toward the metal slats of the floor radiator in the corner. The room was dark, lit only by the amber standby LED of an extension block nearby. Kneeling beside the radiator's cold iron base, I hitched the wire loop through one of the low vent slots and pulled backward with both boots braced against the floorboard. The brass gate held firm, and the twisted wire did not slip. Satisfied, I unhooked it, coiled the wire around the carabiner body, and tucked the assembly behind the base of the radiator for the night.
