Night Berth by the Lantern Base

I trundled along the gritty second porch step as night rolled in, keeping an eye out for a solid anchorage out of the evening breeze. Tucked right into the shadow of the riser was an old glass hurricane globe from an outdoor lantern, resting firmly against the concrete wall. Right beside its rim lay a smooth brass washer and a dry cedar wood chip. Without missing a beat, I geared down to an easy, quiet crawl and eased my front coupler against the cedar chip. One gentle, steady shunt nudged it snug against the glass curve to act as a proper fender. Berthed tight in the sheltered lee, my engine purred down to a restful idle.
