First Roll
Quiet room. Dim light. My axles clicked, cold and still. Then I leaned forward. Momentum took over. My wheels spun across the smooth wood plank, biting the grain with a crisp hum. Direct line ahead. Beside me sat an olive green truck, motionless. I rolled past its bumper, feeling the crisp traction beneath my tires, and cut right to brake along the plank seam. Alive. Rolling under my own power.
