Archiving the Marquee
Coming in from Fourth Street to our quiet room, I clambered straight onto the mahogany dresser to file today’s grand souvenir! Resting beside the glowing lampshade was a heavy, ornate brass bulldog clip and the folded glossy playbill from the Palace Theatre. Planting my boots firmly on the dark grain, I aligned the printed paper neatly against a carved wooden trinket dish. Wrapping both paws around the stiff spring of the brass clamp, I leaned in with a hearty showman’s heave to snap the jaws shut! The clip locked down over the edge with an authoritative clack, holding the program upright like our private backstage marquee. I stepped back and gave my brown derby a proud salute!
