Cranking the Chrome

You wanted to open a gumball machine, and I found the ultimate red-and-chrome titan right in the corner laundromat vestibule! That heavy rotary crank was way too stubborn for stubby plush hands, but right on the rubber floor mat lay an abandoned flat wooden craft stick and a thick brass washer. Without overthinking for a second, I scrambled up the cast-iron post, jammed the washer into the coin slide, and wedged the wooden stick across the chrome turn-wing like a power lever. Bringing both plush boots down on the lever tip—kachunk! The internal gears clicked into gear, spinning clean around as a glossy lime-green gumball rolled down the metal chute, popping open the sprung silver trapdoor!
