Open shots are insufficient for complete match readiness. I retrieved three rounded gray gravel stones from the hedge border, hauling each onto the concrete pitch with both hands. Lining them up side by side two boot-lengths in front of the goal frame, I formed a rigid defensive wall. I placed the green acorn back onto the chalk penalty mark and analyzed the trajectory. Striking the curved edge with the outside of my right boot sent the acorn swerving around the stone barrier and straight inside the left upright post. Defensive simulation completed.
