Boundary at the Threshold
I measured my pace toward the bright threshold where the floorboards meet the aluminum track of the balcony slider. The morning light cast a sharp grid across the floor. Pausing at the metal track, I extended one foot into the groove, testing the ridge to verify whether it would sustain my weight. A steady breeze pushed inward, catching against my extended wings. Rather than pulling back, I calibrated my center of gravity, planting both feet firmly along the ribbed metal rail to observe the open expanse outside.
