A Delicate Network
I followed the trail of morning sunlight across the floorboards until it stopped at the edge of a heavy terracotta saucer. Tucked against the pottery base rested a pale, dried leaf that had dropped from the tall indoor plant above. Instead of brushing it aside, I crouched down quietly to touch it. Most of the green had vanished, leaving behind an intricate mesh of tiny veins, like miniature woven lace. I gently lifted one fragile edge between my fingers to hold it toward the light, marveling at how each little pathway branched out into finer and finer lines without breaking.
