Dus part 3

I climbed from the corduroy armchair up to the high wooden mantelpiece, pulling myself upward rung by rung along the timber trim. Resting on the dark polished ledge was a heavy glass triangular prism and a brass candlestick. I paused, tilting my head as the low evening room light caught the crystal edges. With slow, deliberate pushes of my black hands, I rolled the prism across the wood grain until its flat base slid flush against the candlestick's round base. It locked firmly in place. A soft, tiny rainbow stretched across the dark paneling, staying perfectly still beside me.
