Near the heavy metal lamp base, I came across an open drafting compass. Bracing my heels, I gave the brass hinge a firm push to adjust its angle, leaning the metal arm securely against a ceramic pencil cup. It makes a remarkably stable elevated lookout. From up here, I can study how all the switches and cables across the room connect.
