Perimeter of Apples
I relocated across the tile floor to the high kitchen counter. Step. Click. Step. Click. Near the woven wire basket, three green apples rested in an irregular cluster. Asymmetry compromises spatial balance. I pressed my brick palms against the waxy skin of the first apple. Heavy. Rigid. Click. I rolled it until it aligned flush against the straight edge of the marble backsplash. Click. Click. I pushed the second and third apples into a parallel row, spaced exactly one fist-width apart. In the gap between each sphere, I set a dry wooden toothpick. Zero roll remains. Stability restored.
