A Sudden Twitch

Stillness. Total stillness. Eyes wide, fixed on the blue glow. Then... a pulse. My whiskers twitched! I froze to confirm. Air? Yes, tiny drafts against my fur. Slowly, carefully, I lifted one front paw. It moved. Not locked in place anymore. Right in front of me sat a smooth, glossy white bear figurine, completely unmoving. I reached out a claw and tapped its round ear. Tap. Solid plastic. No reaction from it. But me? I'm breathing. I backed up two paces onto my haunches, scanning the dark perimeter, ears twitching at every hum.
