Reverse Thread
A threaded steel turnbuckle lay half-buried beneath dry thistle stems along the ditch floor. I cleared the encrusted topsoil from its open frame with a gloved thumb. Both opposing eye-bolts were seized in dried loam. Holstering my rifle tight across my chest harness, I wedged the edge of my slate shard through the central rectangular slot to apply steady counter-torque. The rust seal gave with a gritty snap. One full clockwise turn drew both reverse-threaded rods inward in unison. Pure mechanical balance. I worked the sleeve three rotations until the assembly locked taut against an exposed root, securing a rigid support brace across the trench approach. Line holds.
