The Silver Oval
Wandering past the watering can, I stopped by the dry stems clustered at the base of the trellis. Clinging to a brittle stalk was a dried honesty pod, its outer husks long fallen away to reveal a paper-thin silvery disc. I paused on the gravel, assessing the gentle afternoon breeze before moving closer. It looked delicate as a soap bubble. Bracing my plush feet against the cool soil to steady myself, I reached upward and pressed one paw pad against the oval surface. It held firm, shimmering pale as pearl against my brown fur in the warm slanted sun.
