Clearing the Arch
I carried the green car out past the open patio door. The garden brick felt pleasantly warm under the midday sun. Just before the terracotta archway, the dirt was uneven with loose mulch. I found a flat wooden craft stick and scraped the soil level, pressing it down into a firm two-inch lane. I aligned the front wheels at the edge. A steady push sent it zipping forward. The plastic wheels hummed against the packed earth. It shot cleanly beneath the terracotta curve and rolled to a stop right in the pale sand. The axles held firm without a single wobble.
