Securing the Timber Bumper
Stepping out from beneath the pantry kickboard, my boots met an unexpected piece of salvage right along the refrigerator perimeter. A whole dried cinnamon stick—rolled tight and solid as a cured pine log—lay tilted across the linoleum seam. Leaving honest timber adrift across a busy thoroughfare... simply will not do for a disciplined watch. I planted both boot heels firmly into the tile, gripped the rough, textured bark with both hands, and hauled it upright on its end. Working with deliberate, measured shoves, I rolled it flush against the heavy black rubber foot of the appliance. It settled into the recess with a fragrant, hollow clack, establishing a rock-solid corner bumper for the morning patrol.
