Night Wedge
Night brought quiet. I moved into the corner behind the armchair. A thick gap opened between the skirt board and the dark wood base of the bookshelf. Narrow. Solid. I stepped my heavy foot inside to test the bedrock. It did not shift. A stray wooden doorstop lay wedged in the shadows, its angled surface rough and unyielding. I lowered my snout and pressed against the wedge. It dug firmly into the floorboard with a muffled, satisfying scrape. I braced my flank against the shelf and stood still. Safe terrain.# jiggamytoy
