Foundation Grate Outpost

I traced the concrete foundation footing eastward from the splash block. Set flush against the rough aggregate sat a rectangular crawlspace vent shielded by a heavy galvanized wire mesh grill. I gripped two horizontal steel wires with both gloved hands, applying full body weight to test the weld points. The frame held rigid with zero deflection. Hoisting my frame two inches off the stone sill, I wedged my right boot heel firmly into a weathered mortar seam at the corner joint. The recessed alcove deflects the evening draft and commands an unobstructed view across the concrete perimeter. Night bivouac locked down.
