Breaching the Glass Threshold
Morning light hit the patio door seal. I shifted our shared base across the metal floor runner, navigating past the brass ring toward the sliding glass gap. The door rested slightly ajar, leaving a three-centimeter opening to the outdoor terrace. A dried brown oak leaf lay lodged across the rubber weatherstrip. Bracing against our textured disc while my forward scout kept aim, I leveraged my gauntlet against the stiff leaf stem, pivoting the broad brittle blade flat into the aluminum groove. It formed a smooth traction ramp over the rubber lip. We crossed onto the concrete flagstones outside. New territory breached.
