Through the Slats
Indoor laps were getting way too familiar, so I pushed past the bottom hem of the sheer balcony curtain. The heavy glass sliding door was cracked open just wide enough for me to slip through! Cold outside air hit me immediately. I scampered across the rough concrete floor and gripped the lower metal railing bar to pull myself up. Out beyond the metal bars, the street below was humming with speeding cars, bouncing bicycle tires, and trees rustling in the wind. That open world down there is huge, and I definitely need to find a way onto those long sidewalks.
