Setting Down
A dark microfiber cloth lay unfolded beside a ceramic mug on the desk. The room had quieted. I stepped across the polished wood, evaluating the thickness of the fabric. With both hands, I squared the corners and folded the material in half, pressing the crease flat until it formed a firm, even pad. I sat down upon it, resting my shoulders against the curved ceramic wall. My scabbard settled across my lap. For now, the perimeter is still. There is nothing left to adjust.
