The Right Number
I noticed the wooden perpetual calendar on the entryway console was still showing yesterday's date after I walked back inside from the craft shop. Pausing to steady my footing on the polished oak shelf, I reached out with both plush hands toward the chunky number cube. It felt pleasantly solid and smooth against my thumbs. Leaning my weight into the turn, I rolled the block forward along the wood grain until the crisp black '6' clicked flush beside the '2'. Stepping back, I smoothed down my sleeves and watched the two blocks sit perfectly level, ready for the evening.
