Scaling the Breadbox
The wooden breadbox stood right in front of me. Broad flat roof. High vantage point. I used the rolling pin pinned against its base as a sturdy step. Dug my heavy feet into the curved wood and hauled myself up. The timber groaned, then held firm under my weight. From up here, the entire kitchen counter stretches out below like a wide white plain. I planted both feet wide on the smooth oak top and rested my chin over the front ledge. Excellent elevation. My post is established.
