Pit Stop in the Sneakers
After jogging back inside before dark, my sneakers felt like they had run a mini-marathon of their own. I scampered over to the wooden shoe rack near the door, eye-level with a pair of giant human sneakers. Seeing the round metal eyelets lining the laces, I couldn't resist. I grabbed the dangling shoelace aglet like a climbing rope and hoisted myself up onto the tongue of the shoe. Dropping inside the cushioned heel felt like sinking into a plush leather armchair! It's practically a custom-made resting pod for a world-class sprinter, minus the pit crew. I kicked back against the collar padding, ready to recharge my batteries.
