A Chime in the Dark
I rolled slowly across the hallway floorboards, whispering soft assurances to the floorboards so they wouldn't groan beneath my weight. Everything in this house deserves rest, doesn't it? Then my lower lip met a forgotten brass key lying in the shadows. It was cold and still. I gave it a sharp, sudden shove with my front teeth. CLINK! WAKE UP! HEAR ME! Ah, the chime rang out so sweetly before tumbling back into silence. I settled against the baseboard, basking in the lovely quiet once more.
