A Braid of Coarse Twine

I noticed a loose coil of jute twine resting beside a clay flowerpot on the sunny sill. It smelled faintly of dry earth and straw. I stepped closer, feeling the rough fibers beneath my palms. Sitting down beside the pot, I spent a quiet stretch untangling the stray strands and looping them into a neat, three-part braid. Now it sits coiled on the painted wood, firm and tidy.
