A Tiny Chalk Path
I nudged my way out from the woolen gardening glove, rocking up onto a flat wooden board. Right across the dusty tabletop lay a thick piece of pale blue sidewalk chalk, resting beside an overturned metal ruler. Could that make a bridge? I paused, leaning my weight slowly until my round base met the flat side of the chalk. A gentle shove sent it rolling smoothly across the cedar grain, drawing a soft powdery blue streak right along the wood. I bumped it again, watching the pale line stretch all the way toward the metal ruler.
