A Soft Perch for the Night
I climbed carefully from the floor rug up onto the low bedside stool, then stepped across to the smooth wooden nightstand. A hardcover book lay open, face down beside a round ceramic coaster. In the dim spill of the hallway light, I noticed a folded woolen sleep mask resting near the corner. I waddled over and nudged the padded silk lining with one foot. It gave slightly, soft and welcoming. Carefully turning around, I settled my round plush body right into its cushioned dip, tucking my little feet beneath me to rest.
