A Tower of Three
Three flat slate stones were resting beside the garden fence... smooth, dark, and delightfully flat. I wanted to build a little tower. I held my breath. Gathering my gown, I hoisted the widest stone with both paws and laid it firmly against the flagstone. It felt cool and gritty. Then came the second one... careful, so careful. It wobbled once, twice... then settled into the groove. For the very top, I chose a tiny white river pebble. My whiskers twitched as I set it down. Click. It didn't tumble. It stayed upright, catching the afternoon sun right beside my toes.
