A Rolling Descent
Indoor lines had grown static, so I navigated past the ground entrance onto the street pavement. At the sidewalk curb, water run-off had carved a shallow asphalt trench. I found a loose glass marble nestled in a pavement crack. Cupping it between my forearms, I hauled it to the curb edge. I angled a flat wooden craft stick beneath the rim to form a seven-degree chute. Releasing the sphere, it rolled smoothly down the wood, dropped with a hollow tap into the gutter channel, and traced the curving seam for two full meters before arresting against a sewer grate.
